Marketing GENIUS: Turning an “Unsubscribe” into a Customer for Life

I have to share this particularly brilliant piece of marketing genius. This company took a potentially negative situation and turns a frown upside down. I have to say that I personally laughed out loud for a good five minutes when I came across this.

I unsubscribed from a Groupon email list (not because I was unhappy, but because I had subscribed for a city I was visiting and no longer needed it). When I was taken to the unsubscribe confirmation page I was greeted with this:

groupon unsubscribe process 300x252 Marketing GENIUS: Turning an Unsubscribe into a Customer for Life

It’s actually set-up to look like a live webcam video of a Groupon employee, calmly going about his business. However, when you hit “Punish Derrick,” he is rather traumatically confronted by his boss or another co-worker.

I won’t describe what happens here, because you really need to experience it for yourself – even if you only subscribe to Groupon for the experience of unsubscribing.

But you should subscribe…it’s fun to get good deals!
