Fix It in Post Just Got a Whole New Meaning

Well the boys and girls over at Adobe have just brought something new to the table. (Did I mention that we love Adobe?)  With their new plenoptic lenses it is now possible to refocus an image after it’s taken.  Yes, that’s right after it’s taken.

Let’s be honest, I know as you read this you aren’t believing us, and to be completely honest we didn’t believe it either, until we watch this video.

Here is what the boy at Engadget had to say:

“The fevered dreams of crime scene investigators up and down the country are being brought to reality by Adobe, with just a single extra lens and some crafty software knowhow. Basically, a plenoptic lens is composed of a litany of tiny “sub-lenses,” which allow those precious photons you’re capturing to be recorded from multiple perspectives. The result is that you get a bunch more data in your image and an “infinite” depth of field, meaning you can toggle at what distance you want your image to be focused after the act of taking it. These plenoptic lenses are inserted between your shooter’s usual lens and its sensor, though commercialization is sadly said to still be a fair distance away.” Engadget

We know this product isn’t out yet, but the whole team over here has spent the whole day dreaming up what amazing things we will be able to do once we can get our hands on this!
